yet another guilty pleasure in the making

I checked out that new TV show last night called Rollergirls, from the producers of Laguna Beach. I have to say I was very impressed with the concept - based on a bunch of girls located in the heart of Austin, Texas who are dedicated to the rough and tough sport of Roller Derby. The girls have cool gang names like Jailbait, Catalac, Lunatic, Sister Mary Jane, Punky Bruiser, Miss Conduct, and Venis Envy...who wouldn't want a cool name like these?! These chicks fight like men and dress like sexed-up puck girls. I just couldn't resist!

Formed in 2001 by TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls, the Austin league is a long way from your daddy's Roller Derby. Every non-scripted ROLLERGIRLS episode follows the women as they square off against each other on the track and then face everyday challenges with boyfriends and bosses off-track. Some have kids. Some are married. Some just want a body-busting wild time. There's glamour-girl Lux who bangs heads at night and works as a maternity nurse by day. The league "Air Jordan," aggressive Jammer Sister Mary Jane is a special ed teacher. Venis Envy, an art school graduate, is a rookie on the rise. Witty and warm, with model good looks, Cha Cha is one of the league's fastest skaters - and a single mom who really needs a break.

I think I will have to check it out again next week to decide my overall opinion. If nothing else, the show really makes you want to get into a fight, kick some arse and dress like a dirty school girl...that can't be a bad thing, right?
