My iPod has given me nothing but headaches from the very beginning.
I received one as a Christmas gift from my loving parents two years ago, during the midst of the crazy gotta-have-an-iPod hype. So you can imagine my excitement when I unwrapped my very own HP-enhanced 30MB version of the little magical music machine. However, as I spread the word of my new gift, I began hearing a lot of negative experiences when it came to technical and user support issues. I didn't understand this hostile vibe at the time...but little did I know...
Almost immediately my iPod would freeze everytime I went running with it. I purchased the special armband protectant especially for working out, yet I couldn't go a mile without Lauryn Hill gettin' cut off right in the middle of one of her soulful rhymes. How ruuuude. So after experiencing this annoying situation for the upteenth time, I called technical support only to be told that I would be charged a $75 fee to receive the assistance I required - or I could just stop running with my iPod. After the smoke cleared from pouring out of my ears, I gave into the insanity and returned to the dark ages of running with my walkman.
Fast forward to about a month ago and my iPod began freezing when I would simply plug it into speakers; freezing and then just skipping over songs as if it didn't recognize the "Play the damn song" command. So I decided to take on the task of reprogramming the iTunes software and then 'refreshing' my iPod with the renewed software...hoping that would solve all my problems. Afterall, what is life like a iPod? What would parties be like without the upbeat tunes flowing from my iPod speakers? I don't think I want to find out.
With my self-help troubleshooting getting me nowhere, I was left with no other option than to contact tech support yet again. The back and forth e-mails (because there was no way I was forkin' out the $75 for the phone call) resulted in a warranty replacement program which would cost me $290.00 for a complete repair, not including the shipping costs I would have to swallow to get the product to HP. They must read me as a complete idiot if they think I would take this as a reasonable solution. Oh no, me no idiot. So I am now stuck with an iPod that not only erased all of my 300 songs I had uploaded on it, but it does not turn on, charge, or show any signs of life. Awesome. Money well spent.
Now, to make matters worse, I have to play the sucker and go out and buy myself a new iPod at just about the same price the repairs would have cost me.
Know of any good sales? ugh.

UGH. When my ipod died, I called and they asked when i bought it because it looked like i'd have to pay for support. I told them it was a gift, i have no idea when it was bought.. somehow, they helped me, sent me a replacement ipod free, and shipped my bad ipod back.
i think you should keep trying. that's ridiculous.
well, they were able to look up how old the iPod is and if it was under warranty by the serial number. i think the serial number is tied to the warranty information and they can tell from that whether it is covered or not.
