second time is a charm?

My fingernails are always noticeably shorter this time of year. Between the stresses of the many financial responsibilities and burdens that lay on my shoulders mixed in with the additional pressure of the holidays peering around the corner, my fingernails always seem reap the ugly consequence.

And it is always during this time of year when I contemplate the dreaded second job, ways to cut back on my spending and dodging lingering credit card bills, or creative means to start my own entrepreneurial financial windfall. Last year I attempted to start my own "Holiday Personal Shopper" business. With my only marketing strategy including word-of-mouth and old school grass roots advertising, the only potential clients I received were creepy men who saw me hanging up flyers wanting a date. It was pretty pathetic...and, needless to say, a total flop. Although the basis of my idea was great - there are plenty of wealthy people willing to pay someone to do their holiday shopping for a reasonable fee - I got a late start and wasn't able to reach my target audience in time for the holiday shopping rush.

This year I am attempting a different strategy. Something with a lot less overhead, stress, and much more flexibility. I am attempting to expand on my initial idea of starting my own web design company. Having recently completed my Web Graphic Design Certificate from Penn State (yea me!), I am confident in my skills and ready to put them to use for myself and others needing my services. I have been busy working behind the scenes to get my business site up and running and hope to be open for business within the month.

So, my fellow blog friends, please keep me in mind if you are or know of anyone looking for creative updates to your blogs - my specialties will be within the Blogger platform, but will be more than willing to work with others (typepad, etc) and will have service packages for customized header images, sidebar/banner images, font updates (section headers), and specialty coding requests (drop-down boxes, etc).

I will keep you posted on my grande opening...wish me luck!
