island haze

How can anyone be expected to work on beautiful days such as this? It's a clear, blue 78 degree day today and here I sit. Staring at my laptop, daydreaming yet again about places I'd much rather be. In this lackadaisical mindset, without an ocean surf to gaze upon...the only wave I'll be catching today is by surfin' on the web.

Amongst my random searches, I went looking for a listing of the top 10 best US beaches. I know The Travel Channel composes this annual list, but I wondered where a search on Google would take me. It was on this journey through cyberspace where I met Dr. Beach. Dr. Beach has made himself a career out of surveying beaches - from a scientific standpoint of studying erosion and storm impacts, to compiling an annual report on the US's top 10 best beaches, based 50 strict criteria.

"In 1991, on Memorial Day, he introduced to the media his 10 picks for a primo day at the beach, with Maui's Kapalua topping the list. A tidal wave of publicity followed. He appeared on "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee"; the three network morning shows vied for his yearly beach briefings. Ultimately, the Travel Channel recruited him to star in it's annual 'Beach Week', a series of prime-time specials that zoom in on the global beach scene."
